WHAT IS RIAD?
A Riad means “garden” in Arabic. In
Morocco riads represent the traditional dwelling
in the medina. The Term médina means old city in
contrast to the modern city. As you go through the
alleys of one of the medinas in Morocco and behind
the great walls with decent-looking entrance doors
you will discover those sumptuous dwellings. Riads
are designed in such a way as to leave no chance
for any inquisitive eye to steal a glimpse of the
splendour of the place, they are arranged around
a patio generally planted with trees. Being at the
center of the house, the patio, with vegetation
and a fountain in the middle, is the vital point
to which all the rooms are oriented. The roofs and
the terraces, formerly used only to perform various
household chores, are today, for the most part,
arranged in a way to offer the pleasure of discovering
the Medina from a new viewpoint. In the course of
years, the Medinas were completely abandoned by
their inhabitants, who left to more modern and more
practical new parts of town. Thus, these sublime
dwellings started to fall into neglect. It was not
until the 90's that the riads have benefited from
a new revival of interest in them and many were
converted into secondary residences, guesthouses
or restaurants.

Moorish architecture and the art of Riad Marocain.

in the middle. The spacious terrace of the Riad is used as
solarium by our guests and offer splendid views of Atlas
Mountains and Medina.

Medina and is only 20 minutes drive away from the
Marrakech International Airport. Riad is conveniently
located to explore the Medina Souqss (bazaar) and
is only 1 mile away from the famous colourful square
- Djemaa el-Fna
